A Bad Thing and A Good Thing

My computer crashed the other day! Luckily we had already told our son to build us a new one for our anniversary present to each other. So I was without a computer for a day or two. What is a person to do! Well, the good this was this allowed me to catch up on my art journlaing. The top page is for a courage prompt and the second one from a traveling prompt. I enjoyed just playing using paints, stencils whatever I felt like grabbing. And, yes I hand wrote on them.

 Virtual Blog Hop

Last week I received an email from Michelle O' Driscoll asking me to participate in a virtual blog tour. I thought it sounded fun and said yes.  The idea is to explore the creative process a bit more by answer four questions. So let's get started!

1. What are you working on?

I normally have several projects going at once. My Christmas album is in a basket about half done. That is what I pull out in between other projects. I have the photos laid out on papers so I just need to adhere them and add embellies and journalling.  My daughter is getting married in September so I am making table number holders out of corks and wire. I have those half completed and am just waiting for more corks. I just finished a couple of layouts and a canvas for  the Frosted Designs design team. I have enough papers left to complete another one or two projects with those.

2.Hoe does your work differ from others?

My work is as unique as I am. My math and science brain likes things linear and symmetrical. But lately I have been adding mixed media elements to my scrapping  for a whole new look! I love using modeling paste with stencils, ink and paint! My style has changed dramatically in the past few years. The Home layout is an example of an older work.

3. Why do I create?

This is a good question! I have a twin sister who was always the artistic one. I loved math and science. When I was in high school I maintained albums filled with memorabelia. Once I had kids, it was easy to save papers, birthday cards, etc. As my daughter ventured into sports and dance, I started albums just for those events. Then it morphed into school events, vacations, etc. I think now I am trying to record as many memories for them as I can. For example, we had a wedding shower this weekend for my daughter. I made an album for all the guests to leave wedding advice.

 I am also enjoying my creative time and learning to do so many new fun techniques which I never would have thought I could do which includes drawing and painting!

4. How does my process work?

To be honest it varies from day to day and project to project. I keep a list of projects to be completed and have bags of ticket stubs, programs, etc. I do not work in chronological order. Usually I start with a photo or a challenge. I build from there. I will go through my bins looking for just the right paper. Once I have my design figured out, then I look for flowers, buttons and other embellies. There is so much inspiration on line and I will spend time looking for product usage, sketch ideas and more. The problem is, I can spend more time doing that than crafting.

Since childhood, I am happiest when I have paint and glue on my hands! Playing with new products and getting messy is time well spent in my book. I create a variety of mix media signs, cards, and altered art, and my creative style ranges from cute and fun to clean and simple which I sell in a local gallery called the Art MoB. My latest passion is art journaling, lettering, typography and collecting quotes. My grandest achievement so far, has been my being commissioned to paint a huge fiber glass bear which will be auctioned off for charity in the end of the 2014 summer. I also will be having my very first art show debuting on August 1st. When I am not crafting I am photographing wildlife and hiking through our lovely North Carolina mountains. I am 55 years old, single and deliriously happy checking off my bucket list as I go along in life.

This month's kit at Frosted Designs is one of the prettiest I have seen!

I chose to scrap a very old photo of my family. I used the ATC cards to create a  border at the top.

I love the flowers and brads that come with this kit. They were just the perfect finishing touches!

Holy Cow!

Holy cow!! Who would have thought!

My good friend Sandee, shoved, forced, directed me to Derwent Acadamy for a series of videos titled how to Draw! Obviously she knows me very well because I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler.

Lesson 1 was about shading. I got excited and completed two projects. The first was kind of hurried and sloppy but this one was better.

The academy has to approve your work before they release the next video to you. Lots of mail biting going on! I was so excited to get the email that I could see the next video.

This week's was on perspective which I have always had trouble with. But they did it using rulers! This is my kind of art! I jumped right in and was very pleased with the results
