My time this week

My time for the past week and a half has been spent with taking the dog to the vet for laser treatments!

Bandit is a 12 1/2 year old golden retriever. We thought he has was having difficulties walking and wasn't like his old self. A visit to the vet revealed good and bad news. The good news - his hips are fine and there is no cancer. The bad news - bone spurs growing on his spine. These are very painful and can affect movement.

We opted to give him laser  treatments which

  Helps remove damaged tissue,
Releases endorphins for natural pain relief,
Lessens inflammation,
Stimulates protein development, and
Boosts cell metabolism.

So far it does seem to be helping! Although he is not always too sure about the goggles!!!

Plant a Garden with Seeds of Joy

Subtitled: Plant a Garden with Tears of Frustration

Ok - so why is it so hard for me to just sit down and create a canvas???? I thought I would play since I had not made a new canvas in a while. I got some new stencils that I was excited to try. I used one with modeling paste. Got that part painted. It was kind of like a sun in the corner so I thought I'd paint a sunset on the water. It was just not working so instead I thought I'd try a sailboat. Looked like something a child did. I finally just washed the canvas - every layer of gesso, paint, gelatos and modeling paste and started over.

I am still not totally happy with this. I used water color pencils to make the flowers. Just kind of drew circles then went over them with a brush. Added paint strokes and pen and even stamps. I want to just create without thinking too much. I need help with layers! I have decided i am going to take a painting class this fall when the continuing ed classes begin. I also need to get back to You Tube and spend time watching more videos.

Not sure I am totally in love with it but it is done.

If you have read all of this, thanks for sticking it out with me:)

Bicycle Built for 2

I went back to Sketchabilities for a sketch for this layout

We spent a day visiting Machinac Island with my daughter and her boyfriend. The island allows no cars
so you either bike, walk or ride horses. The kids chose to rent a tandem bike!

We had such a fun time!

Loving Webster's Pages papers and transparencies for this!

Also using this for the color challenge at Life paper Scrapbook and for the outdoor challenge at
Frosted Designs.

Thanks for looking!

Perfect Moment

My daughter was home visiting for the 4th and she brought her boyfriend home to meet the family! He is such a sweet guy and he LOVED being at the cottage as much as she does. This is for a challenge at Frosted Designs to use washi, ribbon and twine.

I broke into my new LYB Vintage Summer. The colors are perfect and I love all the flowers, tags, etc!

I have twine holding the banner which includes ribbon and washi pennants as well as paper/
There is more twin in the bird's beak and washi under the Sunshine tag.

Challenge

I am taking the Faber Castell challenge for July! The challenge was about making something about your favorite destination.  As we all know, I cannot draw or paint and yet I keep trying:):) This time i wanted to make a sunset at the lake. I found a video on You Tube and this is my attempt.

-Our fave spot is at the cabin on intermediate Lake in Michigan. I LOVE when both kids are there and we hang out by the fire. We watch the sunset, fish, laugh and so enjoy each other's company!

July dare and Monday Magazine Inspiration

Tracy's July Dare is to show how Mixed Media Mondays has moved/influenced you. My question is how has it not?? A few years ago, I learned about mixed media canvases. I gave it a try and found I enjoyed it even though my efforts were not stellar. I kept experimenting and then I found Tracy and became a member of our little:) group. I have learned so many new things and am encouraged to keep trying and playing.

I also used Paper's Crafter's Corners Monday magazine inspiration for this.

My leaves are made from tiny squares of book text. I used one of my Gelli Plate papers for the background!

This is a mix of products including water colors, acrylic paints, black pen, stencils, a stamp, etc.

Thank you to Tracy and Steph for inspiring me!!
