So the question is ----  Am I a Journal Hoarder??

I don't think I am a hoarder so much as I like to use different journals depending on my mood. And - truth be told - they may not all be "journals"! I am not a "true artist" - I have no schooling or art background. A few years ago, I saw She art mixed Media and decided to start playing with paint and canvases. I had never heard of art journaling, but soon  began playing along with some prompts.

I use whatever I have - a mixed media pad, a sketch pad, an old book, etc. I believe that you can use what you have to do this! You do not need to spend a fortune on supplies. I love books from Goodwill or library sales. My watercolors were my daughter's when she was in junior high which was in 1993 or so. I have fun playing and this is for me so no one else needs to be impressed.

The past two weeks have been a whirlwind. My daughter got married on the 6th here in Michigan, then on the 13th we had a party in Phoenix where she lives for her friends and coworkers. I wanted to create a new piece for this hop, but my mojo is still packed in my suitcase:)

So I think I will just highlight a piece I recently made. Jennifer's godmother was here for the wedding. We had not seen each other for a few years but picked right back up as if no time had passed.

I was thinking of her when i made this page. I used paint to make a random background. I painted the hearts and cut them out. I attached them with twine underneath.

I am thankful for this group and the push it gives me. Lately I not been feeling so artistic but I know I can go visit the other member's blogs and be inspired. I think it is just lack of practice and once I jump right back in I will be fine.

Thanks for stopping by! I would love for you to become a follower too!

Next up is the wonderful Tamiko McCurry

  1. I love your page and you ARE an artist. I too just found Mixed Media. I have never had any training either. I did take one art class in college and now wish I had taken more. LOL Congrats on your daughters wedding, she made a beautiful bride. With that said, your page is beautiful as if you were doing this for years. ANd I agree, no piece of paper is safe with me and I don't buy special "journals" for my work. I too buy used books from the retail shop.

  3. Going to smack you for real one day, you are an artist as much as anyone else! I love the pages you showed us and you are so right, no fancy schmancy supplies are needed. Now go unpack the mojo, I hear him crying, he doesn't like the suitcase...something about dirty laundry left in there with him? :)

  4. Jean I am with Sandee, you are an artist and your MOJO is ready to come out of the suitcase..Love the wedding pictures you have a lovely daughter and handsome new son-in-law. I agree we can use what we have and I do that a lot. but I am shop acholic, Frosted designs love me, I am a self taught artist, back in the day 20 yrs ago or more I did Decorative Painting and taught in my own shop, and homeschool children art theory, then 2013 I signed up for Kelly Hoeing colored pencil class and her steampunk class and was hooked, then I met Tracy on Monday nights and I have been letting my MoJo have all the fun it wants. A dear friend convinced me to become a blogger and the story goes on...I just turned 71 and happy,

  6. Never underestimate yourself, Jean! And I so like that you use what you have to create such beautiful works. I tell people all the time you don't have to spend a fortune on this or that latest, greatest thing to make beautiful art. It always begins in the heart and flows from you to the page. Keep it up, friend. You are clearly doing everything right!

  7. Love see your wonderful work. We all go through periods where our MOJO seems to go missing. It will come back. Just grab a journal and slap a little paint on the page. Sometimes just starting is all that is needed.

By the way, I consider you an artist!!! You create and do a wonderful job!

When I have issues with my mojo, I try to use a a medium in a new way and create something I have never done before!

And it looks like your mojo found its way out of the suitcase!!

  11. Hi Jean! First off, congratulations to your beautiful daughter and your new son-in-law! Thanks for sharing pics with us.

I agree with you about not needing to have tons of fancy, expensive art supplies to make great work. Our creativity comes from WITHIN OURSELVES, not from the tool! Many people fool themselves with this simple concept. You seem to have been creating art for a while. I really like how your page is full of energy, love, and it's dimensional! The addition of twine underneath the hearts is charming. Keep up the great work, Jean! I'll be back for more :)

  14. Aw... lots of good stuff on your plate lately.
I dunno about the 'not an artist' thingy because I love to see your stuff.
Art is subjective anyways. Some will like what you do and some won't, but learning this as I go, I find that I am soooooo happy when I love a page I made no matter what anyone else thinks.
    Now, go unpack!!!!!
