Acrylics Class

I spent the last two Saturday mornings attending an acrylics class at the local botanical gardens. The subject was still life. I have never had any lessons in actylics and have never attempted a still life:)

The teacher was the head of the art department at a local community college. He was a very kind and soft spoken gentleman who not only taught but spent time with us individually. I was very nervous but came home feeling pretty proud of the piece I managed to get done. It is by no means done and needs lots more work but I feel more confident in my ability to work with acrylics.

So - here is my masterpiece:):) Now don't laugh. I am most proud of the apple.

This was my view

This was after the first week

And this was after the second. It is not nearly as bright as it shows up here.

Sadly I had to brighten up my apple so it changed color. My vase is way too flat and lots of things still need work.

I did learn a lot and hope to play some more.

Happy Birthday

I made a quick and simple card using paints, a pen and a stamp.

This was really a fun and quick project! I drew the balloons with pencil and added layers of watercolors. Using a pen, I outlined and added the details. The stamp is an exclusive set from Scrapbook.com

This Handmade Essentials Stamp Set has wonderful sentiments for every day use.

Paint, paint and more paint!

I have an art sale November 9th but will be gone for the week and a half before. So, that means I need to get everything ready before I go!!

I completed about 6 or 7  8 x 10 mixed media canvases and a half dozen ornaments.

Now I have been painting cards. At the last sale I sold 2 dozen! I have been focusing on winter/holiday themed ones.

These are two of my favorite larger canvases. I think the church needs something at the top. Will have to hunt through my stash to see what I have.

And here are a couple of cards

I am the world's slowest painter so it takes me forever to complete these. Also I am learning to put them aside to dry before moving on. By having 5 or 6 going at once, I am able to do this.

I still have next week so hopefully can get more done.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Don't forget to visit PaintPartyFriday to see all the links posted to some amazing art!

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind words!

Experimenting

I am one who loves to experiment with materials. And, I have quite a large stash of them:)

I repurposed an old canvas by giving it a background using some metallic paints. Then I got out oils and a palette knife. I had seen something similar on pinterest and wanted to try it.

I need more practice but am pretty happy with my first effort.

I also made a smaller canvas for an ornament

I still need to add finishing touches. I will be adding these to the pile I have for an upcoming sale in November.

I hope you like them. Adding this to PaintPartyFriday! Please check out the artists and wonderful inspiration over there!!

Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful weekend!!

Think Pink

Did you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month??

Did you know I have had breast cancer - not once, but TWICE?!?

Back in 1994 a suspicious spot was noticed on a mammogram. It was too tiny to be felt. I had a lumpectomy and radiation.

In 1997 another spot was also found on a mammogram. I had a mastectomy but my lymph nodes were clear so no chemo was required.

Those pesky mammograms are life savers! Early detection is key!!

Here is a card I made for a friend sitting by my Breast Cancer bear.

I had a  mammogram yesterday. Have you had yours??

Thank you for visiting! Please feel free to contact me if you are going through this and would like to talk. I am more than happy to!!
