Our other Grand

We have no grand children, just pets. Since I painted the cats and dogs, I also wanted to paint the bird. This is Bonzai, my daughter in law's bird. I purposely tried to layer on the paint so it looked like feathers. I hope they like it!

Art Show

I spent Saturday displaying and selling my canvases at the Rogue River Artist Association Holiday Sale.

I had 16 canvases and 7 or 8 ornaments I had made. Many people stopped and admired and complimented my canvases. I am happy to say I sold 5 canvases and 6 ornaments. I also have two people interested in home parties. One is a cub scout leader and the other is a mom whose daughter would like to create a canvas for her birthday party. I am hoping to get these scheduled soon!

Almost as much fun, was meeting and getting to know the artists around me. We had an enjoyable day!

Thank you to everyone who shopped and also to all my online friends for your inspiration and words of encouragement!

I still have canvases for sale. If interested in any let me know. I can ship them!!

Card and a Gift

I am up Monday at Arnold Grumer's  but today I am going to give you a sneak peek!

I used handmade papers - one which I sprinkled with glitter and the other which was made from a gold paper.

I was inspired by this sketch at MojoMonday MOJO427.
I was also inspired by PCC Magazine Monday. I like the square shape of the packages which corresponds with the sketch.

My card includes a removable ornament so besides being a card it is a gift!

I would love for you to stop over at Arnold Grummer's!

A fun Project

I was trying to think of something different to make for my daughter and son in law for Christmas . I was inspired by an artist I saw online who did something similar. They have two crazy dogs and two cats. My goal was to capture their personalities and I think I did. I do not consider myself to be an artist and parts of this were trying but I had fun and they like it!

Art Sale This Weekend

I hacve been busy getting ready for the next Rogue River Artists Association Sale. I have canvases and ornaments! Luckily I got most of the work done before I spent a week in Arizona with my daughter and son in law.

Here is one of the many I have completed which I am sharing for  the Craftstamper December challenge of anything seasonal.

I added embossed snowflakes to the background and also stamped some. The snowman is painted book text and he has a layer of white glitter. I painted the wood phrase and also added glitter.

Thank you for stopping by!

A Heavy Heart

On Monday, while I was still in Phoenix visiting my daughter and son in law and my son and his wife were on their honeymoon, our husband had to rush the dog to the vet. He seemed to be ill and my husband thought he might have caught a bug or something at the kennel. Unfortunately,  the vet called with some bad news. It seemed he had blood in his abdomen probably from a tumor rupturing his spleen. So just 10 days shy of his 15th birthday, we had to put him to sleep. We all felt so bad since we could not be with him.

Bandit has been a joy and delight for the past 15 years. Although I am sure I have forgotten any times when I might have been mad at him. A few years ago we got a pontoon boat. In addition to loving swimming, he loved nothing more than riding on that boat. Lately he wanted to go everywhere with us in the car. And, once we got to town, he felt it was his job to greet everyone we walked by. I have spent the past two months taking him to town several times a week. We even went to the dogpark a few times.

The house felt empty when I returned and I got chocked up when I unpacked the Christmas antlers we always used to make him put on. He was the sweetest dog and will be missed.

 Last year on his birthday.

Thank you for letting me share.

Catching up!

I am home. I spent the week after Thanksgiving visiting with my daughter and son in law in Phoenix. They had to work but I kept myself busy. I sewed a tree skirt all by hand! I  wrapped all the gifts I brought with me. I also hung out with the doggies. Jen and I did do some coloring which was fun.

Now it is time for the holiday scramble. Right before we left for Thanksgiving, we decided to host a holiday open house. So now I need to clean, shop, decorate, etc. Plus I have an art sale on Saturday.

Yesterday we chopped down our tree and we even got it decorated.

Today I have been decorating and cleaning up. I took a break to do a quick project!

It is PCC's 125th Magazine Monday challenge! Here is this week's inspiration:

I got out my Intense pencils and went to work! It is a little warped yet but I will flatten it before sending it. I like the affect I was able to achieve.
Thank you for stopping. I have lots of fun and exciting things coming up in the new year so stay tuned!

Tradition

I started many traditions the very first year Jen was born. She was just days old for her first photo with Santa!:)

I love that she and Shawn (with a small bit of nagging) carried out the pumpkin hunting tradition! I don't even mind that they found their pumpkins at the grocery store. It is more difficult to find a pumpkin patch in Phoenix than in Michigan! Not only did they get pumpkins but she also carved it! I was thrilled to get these photos!!

I am so glad they are Carving out Memories!

Tradition

It is that time of year when i start in on the kids about traditions. I don't care that they are 27 and 31 and both married. These events are import to our family. Pumpkin hunting was always a tradition. We went to the field, checked a bunch of pumpkins out and selected our favorites! Fast forward to last Sunday. DS siad he would come over and do this. He called a place we used to go and was told they did not grow pumpkins this year. Another place was closed on Sunday. So I went to a parking lot where big wooden containers had pumpkins for sale for $2 each. I bought 3 and put them in our garden and the kids hunted for them there. Somehow it did not have the same effect:) but I got a few pics! And I scrapped it.

Adding this to PCC Magazine Monday Inspiration! This scrapbook paper matched the look and feel of the magazine cover!

I have been busy working on canvases for an upcoming show the beginning of December. I am using paint, paper, stamps, ink, stencils, etc. Almost anything and everything!

I ma hoping these will sell as did the autumn ones. Each one is unique and different.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Fact: I have had breast cancer - not once but twice! Both times were found on mammograms! I had a doctor who scrutinized the films with a magnifying glass. I am forever grateful to her. Early detection is key! My last occurrence was in 1997!!!!

The Golden Years

Here is the current  sketch at My Scraps and More Sketches.

As soon as I saw this sketch, an idea popped into my head. Here is my layout

I have so many fun photos of Bandit on the boat form this summer. He is in his Golden years - approaching 15 in December. Being a retriever, he is a water dog and goes with us almost every time we take the boat out.

Carrying on With Breast Cancer Awareness

This month is breast cancer awareness month.
Here are some facts about breast cancer:

  • One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
  • Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women.
  • Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.
  • Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.

There is good news though. Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, in part to better due to screening and early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options.
I am playing along with Colourarte's Orange is the new black challenge. Kind of went outside the box on this one. For some reason I thought of the witch in the Wizard of Oz and her legs sticking out after the house fell on her. I thought of a pumpkin representing mammograms squishing cancer which was represented by the witch.

I made an art journal page --

I played with Twinkling H2Os  which are these fun watercolors in jars. They are shimmery and fun!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to get those mammograms!!

Adding this to hmixedmediamc.blogspot monthly challenge. From the wordsearch, I found the words pumpkin and witch.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month And Month Long Celebration of Arnold Grummer

This is breast cancer awareness month. You may or may not know, that I have had breast cancer twice. The first time was in 1994 when I was 41. The second time was 1997. The good news is that both times it was discovered by a doctor who diligently checked my mammograms. Early detection is key!

I turned my paper making skills at Arnold Grummer into something different! Here is a sneak peak:

I would love for you to head over there to see the entire project!

Scraptoberfest!

I saw a challenge posted by Scrapourstash called Scaptoberfest. There are 4 different challenges posted by 4 different blogs but you can combine them into one project! This is what I did!

Scrapourstash required at least 2 kinds of washi tape
Challenge Yourself requires a photo of you
My Scraps and More added a color challenge

And The Memory Nest offered a sketch

And here is my layout

In September, I participated in my very first art show! I was nervous, excited and scared!
My emotions got better after I made my first sale! I even made the poor woman pose for a photo! My son and daughter in law came to offer moral support!!

I combined all 4 challenges using washi tape, photos of me, the colors (the closest I had) and the sketch!

Thank you for the inspiration. I have not been scrapping much lately and this got my mojo going.
Here are the links if you want to play along!

Throwback Craft

This week's PCC magazine Monday inspiration got me thinking! I was rummaging throughmy scraps when I found and orange gift bag. For some reason my children's days in elementary school popped into my head.

Did your children ever make pumpkins out of paper bags?? Well, I decided I would do it again! I painted paper with balck gesso and cut out eyes, nose and a mouth. I also added green paint to the stem. I painted a tag with more pumpkins!

Thanks Steph for allowing me to go back in my memories. I might have to go see if I can find any old photos!
